Driver Runs Over Hose While Middletown Firefights Battle Blaze

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown firefighters quickly brought a working fire under control Monday afternoon, but the response was complicated when a motorist drove over a fire hose, according to the City of Middletown Professional Firefighters Local 1073.

Firefighters were dispatched at about 2 p.m. to Traverse Square for a structure fire. The fire was placed under control shortly afterward, the firefighters union said in a social media post.

A fire hydrant at the corner of William Street and Hamlin Court was located directly across from the fire, allowing firefighters to quickly establish a water supply. A 5-inch hose was stretched from the hydrant to Engine 1.

While firefighters were operating at the scene, a member observed a vehicle drive over the hose, according to the union.

Firefighters reminded motorists to never drive over fire hoses and to stay clear of emergency scenes when fire trucks, flashing lights and hoses are present.

The post did not provide information about the extent of damage or whether anyone was injured.

The American Red Cross was helping one family – two adults — after the fire.
