City of Milford to Unveil Comprehensive Revolutionary War Service Roll-Honor Revolutionary War POWs

MILFORD, CONNECTICUT — Mayor Richard Smith and City Clerk Peter C. Smith will host a public press event on the steps of Milford City Hall announcing the release of the most comprehensive known listing of Revolutionary War patriots connected to the historic Milford community, including present-day Milford, Orange, West Haven, and Woodbridge.
As Memorial Day Weekend begins, the event will also recognize the Revolutionary War prisoners of war buried in the mass grave at Milford Cemetery, where approximately 46 imprisoned American patriots who died following their release from British captivity in 1777 are believed to be interred.
City officials and historians will highlight ongoing research suggesting that the burial site may represent one of the largest known Revolutionary War prisoner-of-war burial sites in the United States, and potentially the largest documented Revolutionary War POW mass grave in New England.
