On the LA Fitness Members Facebook page, a user posted that the gym sent the following email to members:

“We want to let you know that we’ve made the difficult decision to close our LA Fitness club at 12‌01 Bos‌ton Po‌st Roa‌d Spa‌ce 20‌90, Milf‌ord, CT 064‌60, where your membership is based. Our last date of operation will be 6/2‌4/20‌26.”

The Connecticut Scoop noted that the gym is in the part of the mall that was marked for demolition in redevelopment plans. The plans, which include converting the mall into 750 apartments with retail space on the bottom floor, were revealed in 2024, but it's unclear if they will move forward.

Sophie Hayes, a mall representative, declined to comment on the closure of LA Fitness, citing the mall's policy of not commenting on tenant matters.

Hayes provided the following statement on redevelopment plans: "There are no redevelopment updates to share at this time, but we look forward to announcing more as initiatives take shape. Our focus continues to be on strengthening the mall as a vibrant destination for shopping, dining, entertainment, and community connection."

An LA Fitness representative did not immediately return a request for comment.

The national gym brand has been closing locations recently. In February, it was announced that the Norwalk gym would be closing this year. A Newington gym also closed last year.

LA Fitness has four remaining locations in Connecticut in Farmington, Stamford, Stratford, and Trumbull, according to its website.
