People Became Trapped Inside Flooded Vehicle In Milford, Police Say

MILFORD, CT — Officers rescued two people who became trapped in a flooded vehicle last week, police said.

Last week during a storm, police received a 911 call about a car filling up with water.

The occupants were trapped inside as the vehicle was dead and the doors would not unlock.

Video of the incident shows the car stuck under an overpass with a driver and passenger inside.

"Officers responded and immediately ran right into the water where they were able to smash the window and get the passenger door to open," police said. "They were able to assist the occupants to safety."

Police said residents should remember the following important safety tips during inclement weather:

• Avoid trying to drive through water and be especially careful under bridges/overpass areas
• If possible, avoid driving all together as visibility will be poor and hazards are extremely likely
• Use caution and help keep yourself, your community and your first responders safe
