2 Juveniles Charged In Waterbury Double Slaying Outside Nightclub

The July 5 shooting claimed the lives of two Waterbury residents.

WATERBURY, CT — Two juveniles have been arrested in connection with the fatal July 5 double shooting outside the LA 42 Night Club.

Sgt. Joseph Morais said police executed arrest and search warrants on Friday.

The two juveniles were taken into custody in New Britain. According to police, investigators also recovered several handguns and other items of evidentiary value.

Two Waterbury residents were killed in the shooting, including Trey-Von Dunbar, 22, and Zaniya Dawkins, 18.

The two juveniles are each charged with two counts of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, illegal transfer of a pistol, weapons in a motor vehicle, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Police did not release their names Monday due to their juvenile status. Both are due to be arraigned in juvenile court in New Britain today.

The investigation is still active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Waterbury Police Detective Bureau at 203-574-6941 or provide an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 203-755-1234.

A GoFundMe campaign is helping the Dawkins family with expenses. As of Monday, the campaign had raised $11,620 out of a $16,000 goal.
