Wandering Child In Waterbury Leads To Discovery Of Deceased Mother: PD

WATERBURY, CT — A report of a 3-year-old girl wandering alone led to the grim discovery of the child’s mother’s dead body Friday, according to police.

Sgt. Joseph Morais said officers were dispatched to the area of Poplar Street at 10:52 a.m. after police were alerted about the wandering child.

Police found the child, who showed no signs of either abuse or neglect, police said.

Officers went to a home on nearby Alder Street in an effort to contact the child’s mother. They entered the residence and found the child’s 34-year-old mother inside. According to police, the woman was “unresponsive and showed signs of being deceased for a period of time.”

Emergency medical personnel formally pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Investigators did not observe any obvious signs of foul play, according to police. As of Friday afternoon, the case is considered an untimely death, according to Morais.

Police did not release the mother’s name on Friday.
