Back To School: New Canaan 2026-27 School Calendar

NEW CANAAN, CT — Summer is starting to wind down as the first day of school in New Canaan is quickly approaching.

Students will return to the classroom in New Canaan on Thursday, Aug. 27.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change. View the full calendar for school closures, early dismissals and other event dates.

Here is a list of dates to know for this school year, according to the 2026-2027 district calendar:

New Canaan Public Schools

• Aug. 24: Convocation.
• Aug. 25-26: Professional learning days.
• Aug. 27: First day of school.
• Sept. 7: Labor Day; no school.
• Sept. 21: Yom Kippur; no school.
• Oct. 12: Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day; no school.
• Nov. 3: Professional learning; Election Day.
• Nov. 25: Half day.
• Nov. 26-27: Thanksgiving vacation; no school.
• Nov. 30: Grade 5 parent conferences; early dismissal for Grade 5.
• Dec. 1-4: K-5 parent conferences; early dismissal for K-5.
• Dec. 23: Half day.
• Dec. 24-Jan. 1: Holiday break; no school.
• Jan. 1: New Year’s Day; holiday break continues.
• Jan. 18: Martin Luther King Jr. Day; no school.
• Feb. 12: Professional learning; no school for students.
• Feb. 15-19: Presidents Day and winter recess; no school.
• March 26: Good Friday; no school.
• April 12-16: Spring break; no school.
• May 18: Kindergarten orientation; noon dismissal for kindergarten only.
• May 31: Memorial Day; no school.
• June 15: Last day of school; half day.

If schools are closed due to weather, additional days may be added to the end of the school year.
