New Canaan To Hold Annual Fishing Derby Event

The annual free event is scheduled to take place this weekend at Mill Pond in New Canaan, according to the town.

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan's annual fishing derby is scheduled to take place this weekend.

According to the town's Facebook page, the 35th Annual George Cornwall Memorial event will take place Saturday starting at 8 a.m., with first cast set for 8:30 a.m., at Mill Pond.

Residents are invited to enjoy "a great morning at the pond as we honor a special tradition," according to the post.

The fishing derby is free and open to participants ages 15 or under, however anglers under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Bait will be provided and Mill Pond will be stocked with trout prior to the event, according to the post.

Online registration is currently closed, however in-person registration will be available on the day of the event, the post notes.

"Whether you're fishing, supporting or just stopping by, it's always a meaningful and fun event for the whole community," the post reads. "Don't miss it!"
