NEW CANAAN, CT — Police warn New Canaan residents to be on the lookout for a recent text message scam reported in town.
In a Facebook post Friday, police said multiple residents have reported receiving a scam text message stating they have an unpaid traffic ticket.
According to police, the message indicates the recipient is summoned to court, and ignoring the summons will result in an arrest and other punishments.

"This message does not come from a legitimate phone number," police wrote on Facebook, "nor would the state of Connecticut or any local police department notify you of any legal ramifications in this manner."
Police warn residents not to respond to this text or click the link provided where their "immediate action" is requested.
