World War Memorial Flagpole on the New Haven Green

NEW HAVEN – The City of New Haven invites regional residents to attend its traditional Memorial Day ceremonies and wreath-laying events on Sunday, May 24, 2026. Both programs will take place rain or shine to honor those who died in military service.

At 1:00 p.m., there will be a ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park on Long Wharf Drive. The principal speaker will be Col. Marc Castellucci of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Col. Castellucci serves as the Joint Director of Force Structure, Resources and Assessment (J8). An Army Ranger and avid rugby player, he has completed six combat deployments in support of the Global War on Terror.

At 3:00 p.m., there will be a second ceremony at the World War Memorial Flagpole on the New Haven Green. The principal speaker will be Lt. Col. Dawn Works-Dennis (Ret.). Formerly with the Connecticut Army National Guard, she now serves as the Deputy Public Works Officer for the Naval Submarine Base New London.
