To Close Gap In Schedule, More CTrail's Shore Line Trains On The Tracks Starting Oct. 5: Gov., DOT

NEW HAVEN, CT — More trains will be added to the weekday schedule of CTrail’s Shore Line East rail service to close gaps in the existing schedule, Gov. Ned Lamont announced.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 5, the state Department of Transportation will add four new weekday trains to the Shore Line East schedule. The schedule changes are a direct response to feedback received from customers in the Shore Line East customer satisfaction survey and interactions with train and customer service staff. This feedback provided insights into how customers use the service and helped identify opportunities to better align train schedules with customer demand.

"Shore Line East customers told us where they needed better service, and we took that feedback seriously," state DOT Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto said. "These new weekday trains directly address the gaps identified by our customers and will provide more convenient, reliable, service for those traveling between New Haven and New London."

The four new weekday trains will improve the overall service schedule, introduce a new connection with an existing Metro-North Super Express train, and reduce lengthy gaps between scheduled trains, giving customers more flexibility when planning trips along the Shore Line East corridor.

This expanded train schedule is the result of an additional $3 million provided to the CTDOT as part of state budget adjustments approved by the General Assembly during the recent legislative session and signed into law by Governor Lamont.

"These new Shore Line East trains close gaps in the current schedule that made it harder to get to work, appointments, and home to families and friends," Lamont said. "Adding these new trains is a direct result of what the public told us they wanted and needed. We listen to feedback and deliver results for Connecticut."

Shore Line East trains stations: Union Station-New Haven, State Street Station-New Haven, Branford, Guilford, Madison, Clinton, Westbrook, Old Saybrook, and New London.

New weekday eastbound service

Two new weekday eastbound trains will operate from New Haven to New London, making stops at all Shore Line East stations:

• New CTrail 1628: Departs New Haven Union Station at 2:55 p.m. and arrives in New London at 4:05 p.m.
• New CTrail 1640: Departs New Haven Union Station at 5:55 p.m. and arrives in New London at 7:05 p.m.
  • New Connection: Metro-North Railroad’s Super Express Train 3542 connects with CTrail 1640 at New Haven Union Station, providing improved connectivity for passengers departing New York City at 4:11 p.m. and Stamford at 4:44 p.m.

New weekday westbound service

Two new weekday westbound trains will operate from New London to New Haven, making stops at all Shore Line East stations:

• New CTrail 1683: Departs New London at 4:40 p.m. and arrives in New Haven Union Station at 5:49 p.m.
• New CTrail 1693: Departs New London at 7:28 p.m. and arrives in New Haven Union Station at 8:37 p.m.

Customers are encouraged to review the updated Shore Line East schedule and plan their trips accordingly. The schedule will be made available online in the upcoming days as track assignments are finalized with Amtrak and Metro-North.
