It’s Open Season For Recruiting, Engagement at Southern: Employers, Community Partners, Students Connect

NEW HAVEN, CT — An array of events this fall and next spring connect Southern Connecticut State University students with area employees and community partners. Those events include discipline-specific career and internship fairs and much more.

Here’s what to expect:

The Office of Career and Professional Development is opening registration for its 2026–2027 recruiting and engagement season, inviting employers and community partners to connect with Southern students throughout the academic year.

Organizations can get involved through:

• Career fairs

• Classroom presentations and industry panels

• Mock interviews and networking events

• Mentorship programs

• Site visits and experiential learning projects

• Other career readiness initiatives

Fall 2026 Highlights

• University-Wide Part-Time Job Fair — Aug 26, 12:00–3:00 PM. Kicking off Week of

Welcome, this high-traffic fair connects students with part-time opportunities on campus and across greater New Haven.

• Accounting and Finance Career Fair — Sep 16, 1:00–3:00 PM. Employers connect with students and alumni pursuing careers in business, accounting, finance, and related fields —open to all majors.

• Southern EDGE Experiential Learning Fair — Oct 28, 1:00–3:00 PM. Unlike a traditional career fair, EDGE focuses on hands-on experiences — internships, micro-internships, volunteer work, job shadowing, research, mentorship, and more — connecting students from all majors with employers, nonprofits, and campus departments. Participation is free for all organizations.

Spring 2027 Highlights

Southern will host a series of discipline-specific career and internship fairs this spring, giving employers a chance to connect directly with students in their field:

• Communications, Marketing & the Arts and Business, STEM & Manufacturing and Recreation, Tourism & Sport Management Career and Internship Fairs — Mar 3, 12:00–2:30 PM

• Healthcare & Nursing and Social Work, MFT, and Counseling Career and Internship Fairs — Mar 4, 4:00–6:00 PM

• Education Career and Internship Fair — Mar 31, 4:00–6:00 PM

These events are just a first look at the year ahead. Additional classroom presentations, industry panels, mentorship opportunities, site visits, and other employer engagement opportunities will be announced throughout the academic year.
