Yale Buys Mixed-Use Building For $1.65M

NEW HAVEN, CT — Yale University has purchased a 12-unit, office-and-apartment building on Trumbull Street for $1.65 million.

That sale was recorded on the city’s land records database on Friday.

According to the warranty deed, Yale University paid Perlman Associates Limited Partnership $1.65 million to acquire the property at 79 Trumbull St. / 100 Whitney Ave. The city last appraised that property for tax purposes as worth $912,500. The seller of the building is a Woodbridge-based company controlled by Julia Isadora Perlman, Andrew Perlman, and Lissa Perlman.

The Richardsonian Romanesque-style brick building at 79 Trumbull St. was constructed in the early 1890s. It was briefly home to the Planned Parenthood clinic that ended up at the center of a 1965 U.S. Supreme Court case that legalized birth control for married couples.

The building’s current office tenants include a host of different doctors, lawyers, architects, and licensed clinical social workers, according to signs posted to the Trumbull Street and Whitney Avenue sides of the building.

According to Alexandra Daum, Yale’s associate vice president for New Haven partnerships and development, “The building will continue to be used as a mixed-use office and apartment building and will remain on the tax rolls.”
