Primaries 2026: Who's On Newington's Ballot, What You Need To Know

NEWINGTON, CT — National and state elections are taking place on Nov. 3, but before that big day, the candidate slates must be finalized.

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Democrats and Republicans will head to the polls for primaries, where registered members of each party will choose who will be on the November ballot.

For example, statewide, Gov. Ned Lamont is being challenged by challenger Josh Elliot for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, so every town's Democrats will be making that decision.

Other hopefuls will also be on the ballot for both parties, depending on the town.

In Newington, candidates will be on the primary ballots on Tuesday, Aug. 11, when polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

They are:

For Democratic governor, voters will choose between:

• Ned Lamont, the party-endorsed candidate and two-term incumbent.
• Josh Elliott.

For Democratic U.S. Representative, 1st Congressional District, voters will choose among:

• Luke Bronin, the party-endorsed candidate.
• Ruth Fortune.
• Jillian Gilchrest.
• U.S. Rep. John B. Larson, D-1st District, a 14-term incumbent.

Under Connecticut primary rules, endorsed candidates are identified on the ballot with an asterisk.

Newington voters will have seven days of early voting ahead of Connecticut's Aug. 11 primary elections.

Early voting will take place Aug. 3 through Aug. 9 in the Council Chambers and Conference Room on the first floor of Newington Town Hall, 200 Garfield St.

The early voting schedule is:

• Monday, Aug. 3: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Tuesday, Aug. 4: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Wednesday, Aug. 5: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Thursday, Aug. 6: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Friday, Aug. 7: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturday, Aug. 8: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Sunday, Aug. 9: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Registered Newington voters may cast their ballots in person at the early voting location during any of the scheduled hours.

Voters who choose to vote on Primary Day, Tuesday, Aug. 11, must report to their assigned polling place. Newington's polling locations are:

• District 1 (27th Assembly District): Mortensen Community Center, 200 Garfield St.
• District 2 (27th Assembly District): Ruth Chaffee Elementary School, 160 Superior Ave.
• District 3 (20th Assembly District): Anna Reynolds Elementary School, 85 Reservoir Road.
• District 4 (27th Assembly District): Elizabeth Green Elementary School, 30 Thomas Ave.
• District 5 (27th Assembly District): John Paterson Elementary School, 120 Church St.
• District 6 (20th Assembly District): John Wallace Middle School, 71 Halleran Drive.
• District 7 (27th Assembly District): Martin Kellogg Middle School, 155 Harding Ave.

Polls on Primary Day will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. for eligible registered voters.
