Ask a UConn Master Gardener a Question This Summer
Do you have a shrub that suddenly looks unhealthy? Are insects damaging your plants? Need help starting a vegetable garden? This summer, expert gardening advice is just an email or visit away.
For nearly 50 years, UConn Extension's Master Gardener Program has provided Connecticut residents with research-based gardening advice and horticultural education. Established in 1978, the program trains volunteers in horticulture, environmental stewardship, and sustainable gardening practices. Master Gardeners support their communities through educational programs, community and school gardens, and plant diagnostic services.
One of the program’s most popular services is the free Plant Diagnostic Clinic. Each summer, UConn Master Gardeners help residents identify and solve gardening problems, including plant diseases, insect damage, tree and shrub concerns, lawn issues, and vegetable gardening questions.
To receive assistance, email photos of your plant problem with a brief description or bring a sample of the affected plant to the clinic. Master Gardeners will research the issue and provide science-based recommendations from UConn Extension.
The New London County Plant Diagnostic Clinic is open May through September at the New London County Extension Center, 562 New London Tpke, Norwich, CT. The clinic is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Services are free. Questions may also be submitted to newlondonmastergardeners@uconn.edu.
