Gas Prices In New Milford Are Down Sharply From Spring Peaks

Regular gas in New Milford is running well below the state average at some stations, while Connecticut prices have fallen sharply overall.

NEW MILFORD, CT — Drivers in New Milford are finding some of the most competitive gas prices in western Connecticut, as pump prices across the state continue their retreat from springtime highs — though they remain substantially elevated compared to a year ago, according to the latest data from AAA and the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Connecticut's statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded stood at $4.074 as of June 21, according to AAA. That is a decline of about 16 cents from $4.230 one week earlier and a drop of roughly 57 cents from $4.648 one month ago. Compared to a year ago, when the state average was $3.162, Connecticut drivers are paying about 91 cents more per gallon today.

The state's current average of $4.074 is slightly above the national average of $3.938 tracked by AAA as of June 21. The EIA, which releases weekly retail fuel price data, put the national average for regular gasoline at $3.914 per gallon for the week ending June 22. The EIA placed the New England regional average — grouping Connecticut with its five neighboring states — at $3.952 per gallon for that same period.

Community-reported prices at individual New Milford stations, however, are running considerably below that metro average, suggesting that local competition along the Danbury Road corridor is keeping prices unusually keen for the area.
