Bethel Driver Suffers Medical Episode, Crashes Into Woods In Newtown: Police
The 85-year-old man was taken to Danbury Hospital, according to police.
NEWTOWN, CT — A Bethel driver was hospitalized after suffering a possible medical episode and crashing into a wooded area in Newtown, according to police.
Police said the crash happened around 1:19 p.m. Tuesday near Dodgingtown Road and Cemetery Road.
According to the accident report, the driver told police he may have experienced “some type of medical incident” before waking up in the woods.

Police said evidence at the scene indicated the 2018 Ford Transit crossed the center line into the westbound lane, traveled across the roadway and onto private property before going through bushes and crashing into a tree in a wooded area.
The driver, identified in the report as 85-year-old Peter Valenti of Bethel, reported chest pain from the impact with the steering wheel and was transported to Danbury Hospital by Newtown EMS, police said.

Police said bushes, flowers and a lawn on the property were damaged in the crash. The driver received a verbal warning for failure to drive right, according to the report.
