The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will present&nbsp; Susan Grisell demonstrating a still life in oil on Wednesday April 22th
at 1:30 pm at The Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street, Newtown, CT. The demonstration is open to the public and admission is free.
Susan Grisell of Gaylordsville is a representational painter working primarily in oils.&nbsp; She studied with a neighbor, Bernard Lennon, and has been painting professionally&nbsp;for well over fifty years.&nbsp; Her subjects include still life,&nbsp;the figure, and landscapes.&nbsp; &nbsp;
Until recently, Susan exhibited mainly in outdoor shows in New York City, Mystic, New&nbsp;Milford, and Newburyport, Massachusetts, and took top awards in all venues that offered them.&nbsp; She also took a Best in Show&nbsp;at Art at the Meetinghouse in Roxbury a few years&nbsp;ago, and the Barbara&nbsp;Goodspeed Award last year at SCAN.
Susan believes that a painting should, by suggesting rather than carefully rendering its subject, engage the viewer in a dialogue.&nbsp; The emphasis in her work is on light and color; the intention is to represent a moment in time, to communicate her perception to a viewer, to insist on the beauty of one's daily surroundings, acquaintances, or household objects.
She has painted mostly in New England, but also on both coasts and many places in between, and in France and Italy.&nbsp; Her paintings are in collections worldwide.
