K-9s, Drone Help Find Newtown Man Facing Strangulation Charge

NEWTOWN, CT — A Newtown man is facing felony charges after police said he fled the scene of a reported physical altercation, prompting a search involving K-9 units and a police drone.

Officers responded to a Saw Mill Road residence around 10:08 p.m. July 30 after receiving a report of an altercation, according to Newtown police. Both people involved had left before officers arrived, though the alleged victim later returned to speak with officers.

Police identified the suspect as Peter Attila Mihok, 28, who they said fled on foot. Officers searched the area with assistance from Bethel police, Connecticut State Police K-9 teams and the Newtown Police Department's Drone Unit before Mihok was located and arrested.

Mihok was charged with second-degree strangulation or suffocation, first-degree unlawful restraint and second-degree breach of peace.

According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, he was later released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 10. The case has also been referred to a Family Relations Officer.
