Lightning Strike Damages Newtown Home During Weekend Storm

NEWTOWN, CT — A lightning strike damaged a Newtown home over the weekend, prompting a multi-department response after homeowners reported smoke inside the residence.

Botsford Fire Rescue said crews were dispatched to a possible structure fire after a thunderstorm moved through the area and the home was struck by lightning.

The homeowners safely evacuated after noticing smoke on the second floor of the single-family home, according to firefighters.

Although crews found no visible fire from the outside, they confirmed smoke in the upper living area. After opening a wall, firefighters found charring but no active fire.

The Newtown Fire Marshal investigated the incident.

Fire officials said the damage was contained to the affected area, allowing the homeowners to return to the house.
