Alicia (Cuevas) Ibarra obituary: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven

Alicia (Cuevas) Ibarra, 95 of Guilford passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 13, 2026 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born July 14, 1930 in Chile to Ernesto and Berta (Berrios) Cuevas. Alicia is survived by her six loving children; Alfredo Ibarra (Sheerea) of Clinton, Monica Lima of North Branford, Alicia Loreto Goyenechea (Reinaldo) of Guilford, Rodrigo Ibarra (Ilse) of Guilford, David Ibarra (Eileen) of Guilford and Alvaro Ibarra (Suzy) of Guilford along with 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren who she adored. Alicia is also survived by her four siblings; Maria Yolanda Rocca of Virginia, Mariana Cuevas of Meriden, Manuel Cuevas of Chile and Celia Munoz of North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alicia is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alfredo Ibarra (2015) and her siblings.

Known for her warmth, quiet strength, and unwavering spirit, Alicia brought light into every room. With her innocent look and gentle presence, she delighted in surprising those around her with her playful sense of humor—often sharing a cheeky joke that left everyone blushing and laughing.

She dedicated her life to teaching, sharing her knowledge and compassion with students in Santiago, Chile and New Haven, Connecticut. Not only did she touch the lives of her loved ones, but also the lives of every child she taught during her more than 45 years in the classroom. It was truly moving to see so many grown-up former students come to Alicia, expressing their gratitude and sharing how her dedication and patience made a lasting difference in their lives.

A devoted Catholic, Alicia lived her faith with grace and humility. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—especially a good book and her beloved potato chips, which always brought a smile to her face. Alicia lived a life full of meaning, kindness, and connection, and will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Family will receive friends on Friday April 17, 2026 from 5 PM until the time of service at 7 PM in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven CT. Burial will be private with her family back in Chile.
