K-9 Cyrus Helps Subdue Man Armed With A Knife After Domestic Incident: North Haven PD

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Police are crediting North Haven K-9 Cyrus with subduing a man who was found hiding in a shed and armed with a knife after a domestic incident last Saturday morning.

Officers responded on July 25 to a home for a reported family violence incident.

Police said officers learned that a dispute had occurred between family members and threats of physical harm were made.

“Officer Dahlstrom and his K9 partner, Cyrus, responded to assist in locating the involved suspect,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “K9 Cyrus conducted a thorough track and guided officers to a shed in the area, where the suspect was discovered hiding inside.

“When given commands to exit, the suspect began to comply but then reached toward his pockets / waistband. Recognizing the threat posed by this movement, officers deployed K9 Cyrus, who assisted in subduing the suspect and allowed officers to safely place him in handcuffs. Once the suspect was secured, officers recovered a switchblade knife from his pocket.”

The man was arrested and charged with second-degree threatening, disorderly conduct, third-degree criminal mischief, possession of a dangerous weapon, and interfering with an officer.
