She Helps Save The Lives Of Homeless Dogs: North Haven Star Student
We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in North Haven

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Christen, who nominated sixth-grader Valentina of North Haven.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Valentina has effortlessly given her time, talents and heart to saving the lives of homeless dogs as a volunteer at Where the Love is Animal Rescue. She has been a volunteer for several years now and has initiated countless fundraising efforts and advocacy on the importance of no kill shelters. As an 11-year-old she has raised thousands of dollars with her Lemonade Stand idea (She had a lemonade stand at home and thought to donate not only profits to the rescue but inspired others to do the same bringing in donations for the shelter). She has helped me foster over 12 dogs in the past year and has trained them and given them priceless experiences of living in a home and getting them ready for their forever homes.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Valentina is a humble, honest and excellent student who tries her best at everything she does and understands the concept of volunteering and compassion at this young age.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Valentina!
