E-Scooter Rider Seriously Injured In Norwalk Crash: Police

NORWALK, CT — An e-scooter rider was seriously injured in a crash Tuesday night in Norwalk, according to the Norwalk Police Department.

In a news release, Police Lt. Ramon Tejada said officers were called to the intersection of Strawberry Hill Avenue and County Street around 9 p.m. after receiving a report of a motor vehicle accident involving an e-scooter.

According to Tejada, the operator of the e-scooter sustained serious injuries and was taken to Norwalk Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.

The department's Crash Reconstruction and Identification units responded to the area to process evidence and assume the investigation, Tejada said.

The e-scooter rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to Tejada.

"We would like to remind the public that helmets are one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk and severity of head injuries in crashes involving bicycles, scooters and similar vehicles," Tejada said in a news release. "While the investigation into this collision remains ongoing, wearing a properly fitted helmet can significantly reduce the severity of injuries in the event of a crash. We remind all road users to exercise caution and prioritize safety."
