New Crime Stats Released By Norwalk Police Department

Officials released new Norwalk crime data comparing 2025 to 2026.

NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk, CT Police Department said it continues to monitor motor vehicle theft trends to better combat this crime and identify effective prevention strategies.

"Our officers also remain committed to proactive patrols throughout the city to deter theft and keep our community safe," police said.

From January 1 through March 31, 2025, 21 vehicles were reported stolen. During that same time period in 2026, thefts decreased to 15 vehicles — a 29% reduction year over year.

"We’re also seeing improvement in preventable factors. In 2025, 57% of stolen vehicles had keys left inside. In 2026, that number dropped to 46%," police said. "We remind residents to always lock their vehicles and remove keys and key fobs — even when parking for a short time. Simple steps like these, combined with proactive policing, can make a difference in preventing theft."
