"Entering the position mid-year, Douge took the time to connect with the Silvermine community, making it a priority to listen and learn," the release reads. "He committed to meeting with staff, families and students to better understand what is working well and where additional support was needed. He set an expectation of open, honest and consistent communication."

According to the district, Douge set a goal to partner with the community to ensure everyone finished the current school year with joy, pride and excellence for Silvermine's students.

District officials also noted this opportunity will allow for a smooth transition into next year with consistent leadership and to keep the momentum going for the success of all Silvermine Swans.

"Douge brings a calm presence, student-centered approach and deep commitment to the communities that he serves, and it is felt by staff, students and families alike," the release reads. "Douge roots his educational philosophy in resilience, problem-solving and decision-making skills that were forged during his childhood. His upbringing illuminated the collective changes faced by those from impoverished, labeled or disenfranchised backgrounds. He's committed to addressing societal disparities and his expertise extends to social-emotional and academic learning for social justice leadership."

Professionally, Douge has delved into diverse realms that encompass education, healthcare, community organizing, advocacy, social justice, mental health and evidence-based practices, according to the district.

He holds a master's degree in social work from Hunter College and a master's degree in health administration from the University of New Haven.

He also obtained a sixth-year degree administrator certification from Sacred Heart University, according to the district.
