Norwalk Public Schools Receives Distinguished District Award

The award recognizes U.S. school districts that are driving meaningful, systemwide change, according to Norwalk Public Schools.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk Public Schools was recently recognized by ISTE+ASCD with a 2026 Distinguished District Award "for its work advancing teaching and learning across the district," NPS announced Monday.

According to a news release provided by the district, the ISTE+ASCD Distinguished District Award recognizes U.S. school districts that are driving meaningful, systemwide change.

These districts embrace innovation to improve learning experiences for all students and serve as models for other schools and districts nationwide, according to the release.

"This recognition from ISTE+ASCD is a confirmation of our district's commitment to ensuring all our scholars have access to high-quality learning experiences and the support they need to thrive," Superintendent Alexandra Estrella said in a news release. "Our educators and staff have worked tirelessly to strengthen instruction, advance equity, and create school communities where every student feels a sense of belonging. From enhancing literacy instruction and professional learning to expanding social-emotional supports and culturally responsive practices, this work has been driven by a shared belief that all students can achieve at high levels."

As part of the selection process, NPS demonstrated effectiveness and innovation throughout its schools, along with a strong commitment to continuously enhancing the learning experience, the release notes.

The district also highlighted its comprehensive approach to improving student outcomes by strengthening instruction, advancing equity, and supporting student well-being, according to the release.

Additionally, NPS showed how it actively engages all stakeholders, including staff, students, families, and community members, in its efforts to drive improvement and success, according to the release.

District officials also noted this recognition "highlights the district's ongoing commitment to creating engaging, future-focused learning opportunities while fostering collaboration across the entire school community."

Norwalk Public Schools will be formally recognized later this summer at ISTELive 26 and the ASCD Annual Conference, the release notes.

According to the release, nonprofit organization ISTE+ASCD "supports educators throughout their careers by providing strategies and support for creating effective teaching and learning environments."
