Buzz Builds In Oxford Schools

OXFORD, CT — Oxford schools are heading into the final stretch.

Superintendent of Schools Ralph Marino Jr. said in a May 29 community letter that the district is entering the final weeks of what he called a “fantastic school year,” with field trips, classroom activities and graduation ceremonies ahead.

Marino also thanked families and community members who took part in the Fiscal Year 2027 budget planning process. He said the work ran from November through May and included input from the school community.

“Rest assured, these funds will be invested wisely to directly enhance our educational programs and services,” Marino wrote. “As we remain fiercely committed to supporting every student’s educational journey, we also take our role as stewards of your taxpayer dollars seriously, ensuring strict fiscal responsibility.”

Quaker Farms School students have several June activities planned, according to the letter. Kindergarten students will visit the Oxford Library, first graders will visit the Audubon Society and second graders will visit the Maritime Center.

The Connecticut Science Center will also visit first grade classrooms. Students will take part in a Mad Science assembly and have a chance to shop at the PTO Spring Plant Sale.

Great Oak Elementary School is also closing out the year with extra excitement after being newly designated as a Blue Ribbon School, according to Marino. Fourth graders are scheduled to visit Beardsley Zoo, while fifth graders will visit Sturbridge Village.

At Oxford Middle School, students are preparing for the Celebration of Excellence. Marino said the event will give students a full day of activities recognizing their hard work.

The middle school year has included grade-level trips, plays, concerts and art shows, according to the letter. Marino said Oxford Middle School is proud to celebrate the work of its students.

Oxford High School is also preparing for graduation. The Class of 2026 graduation is scheduled for June 15.

Prom, award ceremonies, class trips and other activities are planned before graduation, according to the letter.

Marino also encouraged families to attend Board of Education meetings or watch them online. He said community voices and partnerships remain important to student success.

The superintendent closed the letter by wishing families and staff a strong finish to the school year.
