Oxford Firefighter, 37, Killed In Branford Crash

OXFORD, CT — The Quaker Farms Fire Company is mourning the death of Zak McKeon, a new probationary member who company officials said had quickly become an active and enthusiastic part of the department.

McKeon, 37, died after a motorcycle crash in Branford, according to a fundraiser organized to support his wife, Daniella McKeon. Branford police previously said a motorcycle and SUV were involved in a serious crash around 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of West Main Street.

The crash remained under investigation, according to police.

“Zak was a new addition to the QF family and was just voted in as a probationary member in May,” Quaker Farms Fire Company said in a post. “He was extremely excited and very active in this short time with us.”

The fire company said McKeon was willing to learn and help with any task asked of him.

“He was moving to be an incredible asset to the Quaker Farms Fire Co and the Oxford Fire Dept as a whole,” the company said. “We will miss him dearly. Forever in our hearts and prayers Zak.”

A GoFundMe campaign described McKeon as a longtime baker at Hen & Heifer in Guilford and said donations will help his wife with funeral costs and other unexpected expenses.
