Oxford Firefighters Respond To Horse Rescue

Officials said the horse is doing well and will be evaluated by its owners and a veterinarian.

OXFORD, CT — A horse that fell and could not get back on its feet Friday morning was safely rescued after a coordinated response on Chestnut Tree Hill Road, town officials said.

The Oxford Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 9:18 a.m. for a reported horse rescue, according to the Oxford Center Volunteer Fire Company.

Officials said the animal had fallen and was unable to stand on its own, prompting a response that included firefighters, Oxford Public Works, Oxford Animal Control and the Oxford Police Department.

Cars 1 and 3, Rescue 44, public works crews and animal control units responded to the scene. Crews were able to lift the horse safely, and the animal is reported to be doing well.

The horse will be evaluated by its owners and a veterinarian, officials said.
