Oxford School Won’t Reopen Tuesday, Officials Say
School officials said Quaker Farms School will remain closed Tuesday as crews continue working to restore heat.
OXFORD, CT — Quaker Farms School will stay closed Tuesday, Feb. 10, as crews continue working to restore heat after pipes froze and the building lost heat during extreme cold, according to Oxford school officials.
In a letter sent to families Monday, Oxford Public Schools said the problems were caused by a combination of bitter cold and a brief power interruption over the weekend.
Officials said the power issue prevented water circulators from restarting, which led to frozen pipes and a complete loss of heat at Quaker Farms School. Once the issue was discovered, the building was fully drained to prevent flooding when the pipes thawed.

Crews are now bringing in temporary heaters and working with Eversource to supply enough power to fully restart the school’s heating system and warm the entire building.
District officials said their goal is to reopen the school as soon as it is safe to do so. As of Monday, Quaker Farms School is expected to remain closed Tuesday, with a possible reopening on Wednesday, Feb. 11. Another update is expected Tuesday.
