Another Closure Wednesday Forces Town To Add More School Days

Officials say missed days must be made up under state law as Quaker Farms School reopens later this week.

OXFORD, CT — The Oxford school year is being extended after recent snow days and repeated closures at Quaker Farms School forced the district to add make-up days, officials said.

Superintendent Ralph Marino Jr. said Connecticut law requires schools to be in session for at least 180 days, meaning all missed days must be added back to the calendar.

Before the disruptions, the last scheduled day of school had been Tuesday, June 9. That date has now been pushed back for all schools, with Quaker Farms School extending a full week longer than the rest of the district.

Under the revised calendar, assuming no further closures:
Great Oak Elementary School, Oxford Middle School, and Oxford High School will now have their last day on Thursday, June 11, making up two districtwide snow days.

Quaker Farms School will remain in session until Wednesday, June 17, to make up two snow days and four additional days tied to building closures caused by a boiler malfunction.

The calendar update comes as Quaker Farms School remains closed again on Wednesday, Feb. 11. The school is scheduled to reopen on a three-hour delay Thursday, Feb. 12, with no morning pre-K, and return to a normal opening on Friday, Feb. 13, with an early dismissal already built into the schedule. There will be no afternoon pre-K on Friday.

District officials said additional calendar changes would only be needed if further weather or emergency closures occur.
