BACK OPEN: Oxford School Set To Welcome Students Back

New transformer, full HVAC installation and sprinkler repairs clear the way for students to return Wednesday.

OXFORD, CT — Quaker Farms School is set to reopen on Wednesday after major electrical and HVAC repairs, but families are being asked to adjust to temporary changes as work continues inside the building.

In a message to families, school officials confirmed that parent pickup will be relocated to the cafeteria through approximately March 4 due to equipment still on site following the infrastructure repairs. Parents are asked to report to the cafeteria doors closest to the main entrance, where staff will be stationed for dismissal.

The reopening follows installation of a new transformer by Eversource on Great Oak Road, which allowed the district to fully power the school’s updated HVAC system. Crews worked around the clock to complete the system installation, rewire the building and transition from generator power back to permanent street power over the weekend.

Sprinkler system repairs are ongoing in parts of the building. While the gym system has been repaired, additional work will continue for several weeks. A fire watch will remain in place as a precaution while that work is completed. A professional restoration company also conducted a deep cleaning to prepare classrooms and common areas for students’ return.

School leaders thanked families for their patience during the unexpected closure, calling the disruption “extremely difficult” but emphasizing a strong team effort among teachers, paraeducators, custodial staff and contractors to ensure a safe reopening.
