The Aldrich To Host Free Community Day In Ridgefield
The Aldrich will host a free Community Day Oct. 17 with art activities, tours, performances and family
RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum will hold its annual Community Day on Saturday, Oct. 17, with free activities across the museum’s campus.
The event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Aldrich, 258 Main St..
The day will include activities connected to the museum’s current exhibition, “The Aldrich Decennial: I Am What Is Around Me,” a group show featuring work by 40 artists living in Connecticut.
Visitors may take part in guided tours of the exhibitions and Sculpture Garden, hands-on art making, family activities, artist-inspired experiences, live music-making, a performance and activities presented with Connecticut community organizations, according to the release.
The morning will include a story time presented with Ridgefield Library. Preregistration is required for that program.
Visitors may also take part in art activities in The Studio, explore the Sculpture Garden and participate in exhibition-inspired activities. The Caudatowa Garden Club will host a seed exchange table, where visitors may bring seeds to swap or pick up seeds for their gardens.
From 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Aldrich educators will lead hands-on art making in The Studio inspired by “The Aldrich Decennial.” A scavenger hunt will include stops inside the galleries and outside in the Sculpture Garden.
Make-Modern will also offer a textile arts activity in The Studio.
Visitors may participate in “Do The Dots — Aldrich Wall For Community Day,” an activity with artist and creative director Bri Emery. The museum said the activity will use color, attention and guided sensory experiences to explore emotions and sensations and contribute to a collective visual body map.
Outdoors, Connecticut Music Therapy Services will lead an interactive music activity from noon to 2 p.m. Pop Art! Kids will offer an outdoor art experience from 1 to 3 p.m. Woodcock Nature Center is also scheduled to participate.
Artist Anindita Dutta will debut a new performance from 2 to 3 p.m. in connection with “The Aldrich Decennial.” The performance, “The Dream Of Being,” explores themes of duality and includes a freestanding, double-sided work with one side representing day and the other night.
Food will be available for purchase throughout the day from Chez Lenard and Bridge Street Premium Ice, according to the museum.
