On Wednesday, July 1st, The Brewster Summer Music Series will kick off July 4th weekend with a free concert featuring the return of Bookends Band – back by popular demand after captivating a record-size audience last year.
Now celebrating their 50th year together, Bookends Band has been delighting audiences since 1976 with their unique blend of classic favorites, hidden gems and original music. Their approach is refreshingly simple: “great songs – played very, very well.”
The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at the gazebo in Southeast Veterans Park, located at the corner of Railroad and Morningthorpe Avenues in Brewster. In the event of inclement weather the performance will be moved indoors, thanks to the generosity of Tom and Jerry's Irish House.
The Brewster Summer Music Series continues every Wednesday evening through August 5, offering eight weeks of outstanding live music, community engagement, and family-friendly entertainment. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy food vendors, ice cream trucks, sponsor displays, and the popular 50/50 raffle.
The July 1 concert will also spotlight community organizations Second Chance Foods, Carmel/Brewster Garden Club and Putnam Prevention Council, along with other Community organizations Partners. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food items to support local food recovery efforts and help combat hunger in the community.

The Brewster Summer Music Series is one of many programs of the Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and sustaining cultural arts in the region. Since 2010, the Coalition has led the restoration of the historic Southeast Old Town Hall while presenting hundreds of cultural events through the Studio Around the Corner, the Old Town Hall Theater, and other local venues.
