Pianist David Morgan is a musician for life. For him, it’s music 24/7. After a childhood of playing in rock bands, competing in classical piano competitions, putting on solo Keith Emerson keyboard shows and producing demos on his 4-track cassette recorder, he knew a life of music was the only soulful and logical choice. When he was 19, he moved to New Orleans to study with jazz legends Ellis Marsalis and Harold Battiste at The University of New Orleans. Since migrating to the east coast in 1992, he has had a rich career of touring, recording, producing, writing and teaching. He has recorded and toured the world with his jazz trio, renowned vocalist Neshama Carlebach, Peter Himmelman and actress/songstress Jane Lynch, to name a few. His original music can be heard regularly on CBS and NBC sports telecasts and cable TV shows like Pawn Stars, Catfish, Counting Cars and American Restoration. Music Education has become a very important part of Morgan’s career. His rock band training program, The Music Shed is in its 9th season. He developed this program to give middle and high school musicians the opportunity to get extensive coaching in rock, jazz and blues music in a weekly small group setting. Lately, Morgan has been producing and recording his students’ original music and plans to release a Music Shed Artists Vol.1 album in early 2018. He regularly performs and records with his quartet, Portal, a Connecticut band of brothers featuring Greg Wall, Matt Moadel, and Rich Zurkowski.
Eric Halvorson - Drums Eric has performed with John Fedchock, Dave Liebman, Bob Sheppard, Dave Stryker, Donny McCaslin, Steve Slagle, Vic Juris, Scott Robinson, Adam Rogers, Joe Locke, Bruce Barth, Marilyn Maye, Beegie Adair, vocalist Kenny Washington, Fred Hersch, Mark Murphy, James Moody, and Bill Henderson; vocalist Lucy Woodward; toured internationally with Ute Lemper; Broadway stars Sherie Rene Scott and Christine Ebersole; composer Frank Wildhorn; songwriter and pianist Marvin Hamlisch; soul singer Ben E. Yuriy Galkin - Bassist&nbsp;Yurly is an award-winning bassist and composer who has established a formidable reputation in the international jazz scene. A graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Music, Galkin first gained critical acclaim with his 2012 debut album, Nine of a Kind, which led to a successful UK tour with his nonet and earned him praise from Jazzwise and Bass Guitar Magazine as a premier modern composer.
Now based in New York City, Galkin continues to push the boundaries of contemporary improvisation, most notably with his 2019 release, ...For Its Beauty Alone. Produced by David Binney and featuring elite musicians like Matt Mitchell and Rudy Royston, the album has been hailed by publications such as The Guardian and AllAboutJazz for its virtuosic blend of jazz, classical, and ambient influences. Throughout his career, he has performed at world-renowned venues and festivals, including Ronnie Scott’s, the Southbank Centre, and the London Jazz Festival.

Danbury, Conn. – Musicals at Richter (MAR), now in its 42nd season as the longest-running outdoor theater in Connecticut, concludes its 2026 offerings with “Matilda JR.,” performed by students from its Summer Youth Musical Theater Workshop.&nbsp; Presented on the outdoor stage of the Richter Arts Center in Danbury, performances take place under the stars at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, August 13-15.
Rebellion is nigh in “Matilda JR.,” a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination. This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.
Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly lovable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!
Based on Roald Dahl’s classic story, the book for “Matilda JR.” is by Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.
Directed by Sedona Taylor (New Fairfield) with music direction by Max Abarientos (New Fairfield) and choreography by April Smith (New Fairfield), Musicals at Richter’s production of “Matilda JR.” spotlights a talented cast of young area performers.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Featured in the cast are Luna Gibson (Danbury) as the ever-resilient Matilda and Tony Hudson (Danbury) as the frightening Agatha Trunchbull. Ronan O’Connell (New Fairfield) portrays Miss Honey, the kindhearted teacher who helps Matilda.&nbsp;

Matilda’s TV-obsessed family, the Wormwoods, are played by Addi Karow (New Fairfield) and Andrew Williams (Danbury) as her parents, and Liam Gaynor (New MIlford) as her brother Michael.&nbsp; Mrs. Wormwood also aspires to be a champion ballroom and salsa dancer and spends hours practicing routines with her self-absorbed dance partner, Rudlopho, played by Reese Melendez (Danbury).

Aurora Saxagne (Bethel) takes on the role of Mrs. Phelps, the sympathetic librarian who listens to Matilda’s colorful stories featuring boldly vibrant characters such as the Acrobat (Myra Middleton of New Milford) and the Escapologist (Adrian Fontana of Ridgefield).&nbsp;

Assuming a variety of roles in the production are Celeste Saxagne (Bethel); Addy Pasko (Brookfield); Catalina Alves, Lana Laughinghouse, Moira McKinney, Zoe Morales, Lilah Schwartz, Catherine Solano and Zoe Talley (Danbury); Alexa DeLucia, Nellie Joseph, Kayla Monaghan and Wren O’Connell (New Fairfield); and Daniela Coto-Perez, Amelia Fontana, Ruby Higley, Dylan Lannon, Charlotte Mayette, Emily Mayette, Paul Sudwischer, Ellie Znaty and Leah Znaty (Ridgefield). New York State residents include Nicholas Byrne (Brewster), along with Claire Brondo and Sky Browne (Patterson).

Taylor Byrne&nbsp; (Brewster, NY) serves as Workshop Coordinator and Liam Mikita (New Fairfield) is production stage manager.

Roald Dahl’s “Matilda The Musical JR.” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

“Matilda JR.” is performed August 13-15 on the outdoor stage at the Richter Arts Center (next to the Richter Park Golf Course, I-84, Exit 2), 100 Aunt Hack Road, in Danbury. Tickets for this summer youth performance cost $15 for adults, $10 for seniors/students (with I.D.) and $5 for children 10 and under, and may be purchased through the Musicals at Richter website (<a href="https://www.musicalsatrichter.org" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">www.musicalsatrichter.org</a>) or at the door.&nbsp; Grounds open at 7 p.m. for picnicking, with curtain at 8:00 p.m.&nbsp; Audience members are invited to bring their own blankets or chairs for lawn seating; a limited number of chairs are available free-of-charge. Fishing Olympics: Presented by Gemstone Farm & KAZ Outdoors

Long Island Sound

The 44th Annual WICC Surfside Hotel <a href="https://www.bluefishtournament.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth</a> returns to Long Island Sound on Saturday, August 29, with fishing officially beginning at 12:01 a.m. Anglers from Connecticut and New York will compete for bragging rights—and a $25,000 grand prize awarded to the tournament's largest bluefish.
The weekend-long tournament features more than $40,000 in total cash prizes, including:
<ul>
 <li>1st Place: $25,000</li>
 <li>2nd Place: $7,500</li>
 <li>3rd Place: $2,500</li>
 <li>Smaller cash prizes awarded through 20th Place</li>
 <li>Port Prizes awarded for the heaviest bluefish weighed at each official Connecticut and New York weigh station (see below for complete list of weigh stations)</li>
</ul>
Young anglers, 17 and under, will also have the chance to win big. The tournament will award a $1,000 cash prize to the largest bluefish caught by a youth angler. Second and third place youth winners will receive $100 gift cards.

The registration deadline is Friday, August 28, at 11:59 p.m. Registration is $36 per angler and is required to participate. Fishing begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, and concludes at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30.
Throughout the tournament weekend, WICC, 99.1 PLR, STAR 99.9, and WEBE108 will provide hourly leaderboard updates and tournament results.
