Bear Sightings Reported In Rocky Hill: Police

ROCKY HILL, CT — Police are advising residents of recent bear sightings that have been reported in Rocky Hill.

Police said the bear sightings have been reported in the “western portion of town.”

“While seeing a bear may be unexpected, black bears are common throughout Connecticut and are typically just passing through the area,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “If you encounter a bear, please keep a safe distance and allow it to move along on its own. Please contact the Rocky Hill Police Department only if a bear is acting aggressively or has entered a home.”

You can also help discourage bears from visiting your neighborhood by:

• Cleaning grills and outdoor cooking areas after each use.
• Securing garbage cans and keeping them indoors until collection day when possible.
• Removing bird feeders, especially during the warmer months when bears are most active.
• Bringing pet food and other attractants indoors.
