Highway Bandit Caught Pilfering CT Light Pole: State Police

A South Carolina resident is facing charges following the theft attempt in Rocky Hill, according to police.

ROCKY HILL, CT — A South Carolina man is accused of trying to steal a state Department of Transportation light pole along I-91 in Rocky Hill over the weekend.

Lamont Tucker, 62, of Myrtle Beach, was charged Saturday with first-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree larceny.

State troopers received a report Saturday around 5 a.m. about an individual cutting light poles on I-91 southbound in the vicinity of Exit 24, state police said.

Tucker was arrested and taken to Troop H for processing. He was released on a $3,000 bond, and he is due to appear in Superior Court in New Britain on June 12.

Eva Zymaris, a spokesperson for the state Department of Transportation, said the damaged pole will be replaced and reset by the end of this week.

The cost to fix the damage is approximately $3,400, she said.
