Vandals Spray Paint Racist, Offensive Graffiti In Rocky Hill: PD

ROCKY HILL, CT — Vandals spray painted graffiti around town over the weekend, including racist and offensive messages and images, according to police.

The vandalism happened between the evening of Saturday, Sept. 19 and the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 20, police said.

“The Rocky Hill Police Department condemns this type of conduct,” police said. “This hateful messaging does not reflect the values of the Rocky Hill community which is committed to treating all residents and visitors with dignity and respect.”

Police said graffiti was also spray painted in neighboring Wethersfield, and authorities believe the two incidents are connected.

Mayor Allan Smith said residents who live near the Rocky Hill and Wethersfield line between Maple Avenue and Charter Road/Orchard Street should check their security and doorbell cameras for the relevant time period. Anyone who was driving in the area may also have information which could be helpful to police, he noted.

“We in Rocky Hill take this very seriously,” Smith said, in a Facebook post about the incident. “This is more than just vandalism. In this case it's also property damage, and an attack on our neighbors.”

According to Smith, neighbors have shown up to help paint over and remove the graffiti, with assistance from the local Ace Hardware.

“That's Rocky Hill showing who we are,” he said. “Rocky Hill is for All. Hate has no home here.”

The Rocky Hill Congregational Church has responded to the graffiti by offering free “Hate Has No Home Here” signs for residents of both Rocky Hill and Wethersfield.

The church made the signs in 2023 in response to white supremacy flyers being circulated, church officials said.

Interested residents can get a “Hate Has No Home Here” sign delivered to their home by emailing Office@rhccucc.org, or by taking a sign from the church’s lawn at 805 North Main St., Rocky Hill.
