‘His Legacy Will Never Be Forgotten’: Brookfield Fire Company Mourns Former Chief

The longtime firefighter and former chief was remembered for his leadership and dedication to the Brookfield community.

BROOKFIELD, CT — The Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company announced Sunday that its former chief, Glenn Martone, has died following a battle with cancer.

Martone died peacefully at Danbury Hospital surrounded by family, according to the department.

“Throughout his many years of service, Glenn dedicated himself to the company, the fire service and the Brookfield community with unwavering commitment and pride,” the department said.

According to a previous fundraiser for Martone, he had been undergoing treatment for metastatic cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

The fundraiser described Martone as a longtime self-employed contractor and active member of the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company for more than 40 years. Over the years, he served as both president and chief and was also involved in mission trips and volunteer efforts in Connecticut, Massachusetts and South Dakota.

Fire officials said Martone’s leadership, mentorship and service left a lasting impact on the organization and its members.

“His legacy within the fire service and our community will never be forgotten,” the department said.

The fire company said additional information regarding funeral arrangements and services will be released when available.
