Blues 101 is an entertaining and educational program encompassing the history of blues music in America from its origins in the African American tradition of the deep south to the present.&nbsp;
The program is a multi-media presentation of classic blues pieces played on authentic vintage instruments interspersed with historical images, video and educational material. &nbsp;The music is traced chronologically through its development in different regions of the south and follows the great African American migration to important centers like Memphis, Chicago and beyond. The roots of rock and roll, jazz and even hip hop can be traced to this important form. &nbsp;Of special interest are pieces performed on Dan's homemade, three stringed "Cigar Box Guitar" and one stringed "Diddley Bow", both primitive instruments used by early bluesmen and played with a "bottleneck" slide.
Who is Ramblin’ Dan Stevens?
Presenter "Ramblin" Dan Stevens is a veteran touring bluesman and teacher who has entertained audiences &nbsp;throughout the US, Germany, UK, Canada and Virgin Islands. &nbsp; As a finalist in the International Blues Challenge on Beale St. in Memphis TN and protege of the legendary folk/blues icon, Dave Van Ronk, Dan has been lauded for his ability as a raconteur and for the authenticity of his approach gained by many years on the road as a traveling blues musician.

Simsbury UMC is thrilled to welcome Carillonneur Dan Kehoe back for a Memorial Day concert on our fabulous Foreman Carillon!
Listen inside or on the church lawn. You are welcome to climb the stairs to view the bells - we just ask that you remain quiet while Mr. Kehoe is playing.
Daniel K. Kehoe was carillonneur of the Foreman Carillon beginning in 2007 when he retired after&nbsp;25 years as Trinity College’s first on-staff carillonneur. In 2016, he moved to the Raleigh, North&nbsp;Carolina area with his wife, Allyson, but has returned each year since to kick off the Simsbury&nbsp;Memorial Day parade with this special concert for those gathering below.



After graduation from Trinity in 1978, where he was the head of the student players, he studied&nbsp;bell playing at the Royal Carillon School in Mechelen, Belgium, with Piet van den Broek, a&nbsp;contemporary of and successor to the prior head of the school, Staf Nees and Nees’ own teacher, Jef Denyn, in whose style Kehoe has been recognized as playing.


In North Carolina, he was the interim director of the 30-member Johnston County Chorus, as well&nbsp;as recently retiring as pianist and founding co-director of the Neuse River Big Band. Prior to moving, he was a trombonist with the Solid Oak Big Band here in Simsbury.
