How Reliable Is The Power In Simsbury? Recent Report Has The Answer

Eversource released town-by-town reliability scorecards showing fewer outages and faster restorations.

SIMSBURY, CT — A power company report has detailed the electricity reliability in Simsbury, part of a recently released Eversource Energy report that details reliability statewide.

Eversource claims electric reliability for Connecticut customers has improved over the past decade, citing grid upgrades, automation technology, and vegetation management.

The company announced recently that customers now experience an average of one power interruption every 20 months, representing a 15% improvement since 2017.

Simsbury electric customers experienced power outages slightly less often than the statewide average in 2025.

Still, those outages lasted longer than the typical interruption across Connecticut, according to Eversource's report.

The utility reported serving 11,690 customers in Simsbury during the year.

According to the scorecard, the average Simsbury customer experienced one outage every 22 months, compared with the statewide average of one outage every 20 months.

While outages occurred less frequently than the state average, customers spent more time without electricity.

The average Simsbury customer experienced 101 minutes of outage time during 2025, exceeding the statewide average of 81 minutes.

When outages did occur, Eversource restored power in an average of 188 minutes, or about 3 hours and 8 minutes.

The report also identified customers who experienced repeated or prolonged outages. In 2025:

  • 261 customers experienced three or more outages.
  • 719 customers experienced an outage lasting seven hours or longer.

Tree-related incidents remained by far the leading cause of outages in Simsbury and accounted for a larger share of interruptions in 2025 than in the previous two years.

Equipment-related outages declined from 2024 levels, while lightning-related outages dropped sharply after accounting for a significant share of interruptions in 2023.

Outages caused by animals, vehicles, and other factors represented relatively small portions of the total.

Eversource released the data as part of its annual electric reliability scorecards, which provide town-by-town information for the 149 Connecticut municipalities the company serves.

“These scorecards help our customers understand how outages impact their area while highlighting some of the critical work we do every day to strengthen our electric system and make it more resilient,” Eversource Vice President of Electric Field Operations Don Scacco said in a statement.

Scacco said the company uses outage data and cost-benefit analyses to determine where investments are needed, including smart switch installations and enhanced tree-trimming programs.

The scorecards also detail the leading causes of outages in each municipality and summarize local reliability and resiliency projects completed by the utility.

Eversource said ongoing infrastructure work includes replacing aging utility poles and electric lines with stronger equipment designed to better withstand severe weather.
