Late-Night Fourth Of July Fire Damages Southington Home: FD

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A late-night fire caused significant damage to a home on Village Gate Drive in Southington, sending flames into the attic and drawing a large mutual aid response from surrounding communities, according to the Southington Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched at 11:51 p.m. Saturday to 58 Village Gate Drive following reports of a structure fire.

The first arriving chief officer found heavy fire burning along the side of the home that had spread up the exterior and into the structure.

Firefighters began a transitional attack, using master streams to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire and slow its spread before crews entered the home to complete extinguishment, wrote the SFD in a release.

Officials said the fire extended above the garage and into the attic, requiring extensive operations to locate and extinguish hidden fire.

The SFD was assisted at the scene by the Meriden, Bristol, New Britain, Cheshire, and Plainville fire departments.

Station coverage during the incident was provided by the Middletown, Wolcott, and Kensington fire departments to maintain emergency response throughout the community.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Southington Fire Marshal's Office, according to Southington Fire Department Chief Scott Lee.

The fire department also thanked its mutual aid partners, dispatchers, and all responding personnel for their assistance.
