Southington Opens Cooling Centers as Heat and Humidity Grip Region (Again)

Southington residents can find relief from extreme heat at designated cooling centers through Thursday, July 16.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington officials have activated the town's Extreme Hot Weather Protocol, opening multiple cooling centers for residents as high temperatures are expected through midweek.

The protocol will be in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, through 5 p.m. Thursday, July 16, according to Southington Emergency Management.

  • Tuesday, July 14: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, July 15: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 16: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The police department lobby will be available overnight and whenever the Southington Public Library and Calendar House are closed, serving as a temporary cooling location.

Emergency Management is also encouraging residents to:

  • Stay hydrated.
  • Limit time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Check on neighbors, older adults, and pets during the heat wave.

Officials urge anyone without access to air conditioning to take advantage of the town's cooling centers while the extreme heat protocol remains in effect.
