Southington's 'Fraud Bingo' To Help Folks Avoid Scams, Identity Theft

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington-area residents can brush up on ways to recognize financial scams and protect their money during an interactive “Financial Fraud Bingo” program this week.

State Reps. Gale Mastrofrancesco, R-Wolcott, and Donna Veach, R-Berlin, and state Sen. Rob Sampson, R-Wolcott, are hosting the event in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Banking.

The program is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 27, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Southington Calendar House, 388 Pleasant St.

Organizers describe the program as an interactive refresher on protecting personal information and money from scammers, with participants learning about financial fraud while playing bingo.

Topics are expected to include banking scams, fraud, identity theft, and other methods criminals use to obtain personal or financial information.

The program is particularly geared toward helping seniors recognize potential scams and learn steps they can take to protect themselves.

The event comes as government agencies and law enforcement officials continue to warn residents about scams that can involve callers, emails, or messages impersonating legitimate businesses, financial institutions or government agencies.

The Connecticut Department of Banking will participate in the program alongside the three state lawmakers.
