Zoning Board OK's Southington Manufacturer's Expansion
The Southington PZC last week said 'yes' to the construction of a large building that would also have space for another manufacturer.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — A local manufacturer/supplier of those steel basement doors seen outside many homes is expanding, with zoning officials recently approving a major building addition.
628 Associates LLC, which owns the industrially-zoned property home to the Gordon Corp. at 170 Spring St., Southington, had a special permit application approved Jan. 6 to build a 21,000-square-foot building on its site.
The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission that evening unanimously said "yes," with a 7-0 vote in favor.

With the approval, Gordon is planning to use much of the 21,000 square feet for product storage, according to Steve Giudice of Cole Civil and Survey, speaking on behalf of the applicants, Jan. 6.
He said the building will also have room for a small manufacturer who could rent the space from the applicants.

The building, he said, would be next to the old site of Crystal Bees, a bowling alley/amusement center that closed in 2024.
Once complete, the parking lot will be expanded from 22 to 28 spaces, Giudice said, to facilitate any future client of the rented portion of the building.
Gordon manufactures, supplies, and installs metal basement doors that provide access to homes from the outside.
Aside from technical questions from commission members, the project drew minimal comments from the public.
Once the hearing was closed, the PZC easily approved the application.
