Car Fire After Tractor-Trailer Crash On Route 5 In South Windsor

Emergency crews rushed to Route 5 in South Windsor after a car struck a tractor-trailer.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Emergency crews responded to a mid-day crash Wednesday after a passenger car collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 5, sparking a brief vehicle fire and temporarily shutting down southbound traffic, officials said.

According to the South Windsor Fire Department, the crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 5 (John Fitch Boulevard) and Fitch Meadow Lane. Crews from the South Windsor Police Department and the Ambulance Service of Manchester also responded.

Officials said the collision caused an engine compartment fire in the passenger vehicle. The driver sustained only minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.

Southbound Route 5 was closed at Sullivan Avenue for a short time while emergency crews handled the scene. Traffic has since reopened.
