UNION, CT — The driver of a compact electric crossover vehicle escaped serious injury after a blown tractor-trailer tire left a path of debris on the extreme northern stretch of Interstate 84, state police said.

According to a state police crash report, the incident took place just after noontime on Saturday.

A tractor-trailer was headed east on I-84 just prior to Exit 74 when one of its tires exploded and left a trail of debris on the highway, according to a crash report. Along came a 2023 Kia EV6, which encountered the mess left behind by the blown tire, according to a crash report.

The driver of the Kia, a 35-year-old Bloomfield man, escaped major injury, but the vehicle hit the debris and sustained front-end damage, according to a crash report.
