Plate Reader Snags Manchester Man Accused Of Damaging A Vehicle In Stafford: Warrant

STAFFORD, CT — A Manchester man is facing a felony charge for doing a number on a car in Stafford, state police said.

Nigin Gunther, 35, was charged via a warrant with first-degree criminal mischief for the April 10 incident, according to an arrest report.

In Connecticut, first-degree criminal mischief is a serious Class D felony. It is charged when someone intentionally damages another's property causing more than $1,500 in damage.

According to a warrant, on the morning of April 10, state police went to a home on Old Birch Road after a 70-year-old resident discovered the driver's side windows of her car had been smashed.

Gunther is accused of going to the home overnight amid a domestic disagreement and damaging the Subaru, according to a warrant.

He was caught when a license plate reader alerted state police to his vehicle being in the area that day, heading toward the residence, despite Gunther's claims he had no idea the Subaru had been damaged, according to a warrant.
