2 Families Displaced, Firefighter Injured By Fire In Stamford: FD

STAMFORD, CT — Two families were displaced and a firefighter suffered a minor injury due to a three-alarm fire Sunday night at a condominium complex in Stamford, according to the Stamford Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Stamford Fire Department's Fire Marshal's Office. Additional updates will be provided as the investigation continues, the SFD said.

Units were dispatched to the Oakwood Place Condominiums in the 170 block of Myano Lane at approximately 7:55 p.m. on July 19, and found "heavy fire conditions" involving the middle unit of a seven-unit condominium building, the SFD said.

A third alarm was sounded 14 minutes later as crews continued to battle rapidly advancing fire conditions, which brought more than 50 firefighters to the scene, the SFD said.

Firefighters conducted an aggressive interior attack against the blaze and searched the involved apartment unit and adjacent units.

The SFD said the fire caused extensive damage to both floors of the apartment of origin and extended into the attic space. The fire was confined to the apartment of origin, but the two adjoining apartments sustained significant smoke and water damage.

An occupant of the apartment where the fire started sustained minor fire-related injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported by Stamford EMS to Stamford Hospital, the SFD said.

A second resident from a nearby apartment experienced an unrelated medical emergency and was taken to Stamford Hospital for evaluation.

One Stamford firefighter sustained a minor injury while operating at the scene and was also taken to Stamford Hospital for evaluation.

Two families were displaced as a result of the fire. One of the apartments was unoccupied, the SFD said.

The fire was declared under control at approximately 8:49 p.m.. Crews then remained at the scene performing overhaul operations, checking for hidden fire, and assisting displaced residents.

The Norwalk Fire Department, Greenwich Fire Department and Belltown Volunteer Fire Department provided station coverage in the downtown area during the fire.
